I got a reaction from the auto update to '16.8' , I installed as required
and did a restart to update the all save, and then reloaded the saves,
but the game data did not give a back up as before and is still showing
16.7, is the 8 patch available to be redown loaded to try again as the
auto is not seeing now.

AAMOI, what's the size of your .dbv1 file?

The old 16.7 file was 19,158,450 bytes
The new 16.8 file is 19,160,671 bytes

As your new size, so I assume it did take ok thanks.

Edit;
Just as a point of interest I used a restore point I think it was Friday last to get rid of an app
that failed to clear properly, would that have any effect on SS as I went back to Feb 3 restore point.

EDIT: The item below the blue line probably should have been a separate item, as you are up with the system is it/can it be moved to make a new item, or shall I make the item a new topic, i just thought that using a restore point might have come with in the scope of the micro 16.8 question

You were right in editing your post, as consecutive posts aren't allowed on the forum  Wink

Using Windows System Restore would have taken your Windows installation, Windows-related software, and your Windows registry back to 03 Feb

I know that a new installation of the game puts entries into the registry, but I don't know if a new patch or micropatch does also...  scratch

To my knowledge this is the first time this issue has been raised, and personally I keep my use of System Restore to an absolute minimum. Mainly because it's not very good, especially on a non-maintained system...  Evil or Very Mad

If it does, then using using System Restore could well cause problems with updating the game, but Aleks would be better advising on this, and it needs to go into the Installation Guide

EDIT: I've received several PMs recently from members with installation problems. On each occasion, recommending that they read the appropriate part of the Guide has resolved the issue. This is not to say they didn't read it properly to start with, but that the Guide needs to be clearer, especially as this is a 32 bit game trying to work within 64 bit systems for which it wasn't designed... No

Thanks Sword2012

I concur with the use of the restore feature to a minimum, over the years it has caused so
many more problems than its cured, the time before I used it was last summer, when I had
the same problem deleting a program that at the time seemed useful, when a batch of
Microsoft updates comes on stream or other updates restore seems to screw things some
what, but as you say I will put the query into Aleks realm and see if 'restoring' is bad news
for SS, it might lead to a total install, hope not though trying find and to remove every SS file,
It seems there are quiet a lot minor issues out side SS that effect the installation and running
of SS due to the multitude of app's etc that folks have on the set up, some are not good bed fellows
and so cause minor issues when installing and playing, as you say I will refer this to Aleks, unless
he see's this before, thanks
