Short response: All the sound files are inside gamedata files .dbc, .dbd, and .dbe If you need further info on unpacking these files, please ask

If you need further info on unpacking these files, please ask Yeah how do we do it? You need a STALKER unpacker program. Unpacker.exe is the one that I use: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]There are a couple of others here: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]I assume that they work the same way, but I haven't tried them. Put unpacker.exe into a temporary folder somewhere away from your game installation. Copy any gamedata.db* files that you want to extract into the folder with unpacker.exe. Then drag each db* file in turn onto unpacker.exe and it will unpack the contents into the same folder. The gamedata.db* files are in your top STALKERSOUP folder.

Hi, If a .dB file is unpacked using unpacker.exe after use etc, please advise how it is repacked back to a .dB file? Does it save back with the same file name as before and will Stalkersoup accept it please? I look forward to your reply. Thanks and Regards TrueB. _________________________________________________ TrueB

The game is set up to work with files that have been pre-packed by TB If you want to unpack any of them, to access the contents for other reasons than playing the game, then you'd simply use a copy of the packed file and unpack it in a completely separate folder from the game This way, you wouldn't need to repack the unpacked files to put them back into the game, as you wouldn't be disturbing the game at all --- If, however, you wanted to modify an unpacked file to reuse in the game, then you'd put this individual modified file in the appropriate folder within the 'gamedata' folder, because the game looks here for alternative files to replace the pre-packed ones This way, if you make a mistake in the modding, and the game crashes or doesn't work at all, then these modified files can easily be removed, and the game will default to using the pre-packed ones again Hoping this helps

Yes, it does Sword thank you. It convinces me not to dabble; rather to leave a suggestion for whatever I have in mind, and see if it is taken up. Of course any modders will also welcome your advice. Regards, TrueB _________________________________________________ TrueB

Dabbling is okay, just as long as you don't try to do too much in one go Like modifying the BIOS of a PC, make small changes at a time, see if your game still starts, and that you can see your changes in the game. It can be really satisfying! But I've lost count of the number of times I've caused my game not to start, or crash at a certain point, and then spent ages trying to find out why - and that's just modding the text files! For the next patch the dialogues team has ventured into the script files, which was pretty daunting as none of us is a coder. This area includes all the PDA messages that arrive from Sid and fellow stalkers, plus other spurious messages that appear at the bottom left of your HUD It won't be perfect as we didn't dare go further this time round, but the difference will be clear, and I hope you like what we've done...
